Hillsborough road might get wider

VALRICO, FL (WFLA) -

If you drive down State Road 60 in eastern Hillsborough County, you know what a mess it can be. Florida Department of Transportation officials say if they don't take care of it, it's only going to get worse.

By 2040 they expect 54 percent more drivers on the road. That's 71,000 cars a day. To fight the congestion traffic experts have presented two options to widen the road from two to three lanes on each side.

They suggested a complete reconstruction of the roadway so it can be centered within the existing right of way. Or the existing pavement can be used and be centered along existing roadway.

Depending on which option goes through, it could cost from $92 to $106 billion.

There's a meeting Tuesday night from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Strawberry Ridge HOA Club House at 3419 E State Road 60 in Valrico. The public is welcome to comment.

If your home or business is near the road expansion you can go to the meeting to find out how you will be affected by the changes.
