According to a HCSO report Lupello Gomez called 9-1-1 just before 2 a.m. on the morning of the murder to report a robbery. When deputies arrived at unit A-15 at the Montierra Apartment Complex on Delores Court Gomez told them everything was okay.
He told them to leave but the deputies explained they needed to check and make sure everyone was safe inside. When they entered they found Alvarez-Hernandez suffering from two stab wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died.
Investigators say Gomez had to be physically restrained as he attempted to prevent the victim from receiving medical attention. Since the night of the homicide detectives identified and spoke with a female who was at the apartment when Alvarez-Hernandez was stabbed to death.
It was determined the woman was a prostitute who was hired by Gomez. She told detectives she left the apartment when the suspect was calling 9-1-1 and surveillance cameras at the complex back up her statement.
Detectives are not releasing her name. DNA evidence collected at the scene ties Gomez to the victim. The suspect had been in the Hillsborough County Jail since the incident. He was arrested on that day on an obstruction charge.
