BARTOW, FL (WFLA) - A Bartow baptist church leader has been charged with 40 counts of child pornography possession, Polk County Sheriff's deputies said.

Homer Dewayne Rudd, 61,  of 4710 Hunt Road, told Polk deputies he had been watching child pornography on his personal laptop for more than a year and he said he had a problem, a sheriff's office news release stated. Rudd said he had a leadership role at Lake Hamilton Baptist Church.

One of Rudd's family members contacted the sheriff's office after finding child pornography on Rudd's computer, authorities said. The relative gave the laptop to detectives, who conducted a forensic examination with the laptop owner's consent.

Detectives identified two images of child pornography related to girls younger than 7 years old.  They obtained a search warrant for the laptop and discovered 38 more images.

Rudd is being held at the Polk County South County Jail on $40,000 bail.
