Bradenton man charged in smash-and-grab car burglaries

BRADENTON, FL (WFLA) - A 32-year-old Bradenton man is behind bars facing a variety of burglary related charges following his arrest Friday morning.

John Koria is being held on a bond of $3,500 on felony and misdemeanor charges.

According to a Bradenton Police Department report officers were dispatched to the Hampton Inn on 10th St. West just after 6 a.m. in response to a car burglary call. When the officers arrived hotel staff informed them that six vehicles had a window broken out and items taken.

A couple of hours later officers were dispatched to an auto burglary call from the 100 block of 1st Ave. West where several vehicles were broken into in a similar manner.

Koria was stopped by officers in the 900 block of 13th Ave. West and questioned about the crimes. He initially gave the officers a false name and was found to be in possession of some items taken during the burglaries. The suspect also had large ceramic objects that investigators say he used to break out the car windows.

Detectives continued to question Koria who confessed to committing several of the burglaries. He is facing one count of burglary of a conveyance, one count of possession of burglary tools and one count of giving a false name to law enforcement.

Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
