Surveillance video shows mom driving kids into Daytona Beach surf

Posted: Updated:
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (WFLA) -

Newly released surveillance video shows the moments that a pregnant mother drove a van with her three children inside into the water on Daytona Beach.

Several vehicles are seen driving down the beach. Then, a dark-colored van makes a left turn and heads into the surf.

Investigators say Ebony Wilkerson told her children she was "trying to take them to a better place". Bystanders and beach safety officers pulled the two girls and a boy, ages 3, 9 and 10, through the windows to safety.

Wilkerson's sister called 911 before the beach incident to report that her sister's husband had abused her, and that Wilkerson was "talking about Jesus and how there are demons in my house".

Wilkerson, 32, is charged with three counts of attempted murder and three counts child abuse causing great bodily harm. A judge set Wilkerson's bond at $1.2 million.

Material from the Associated Press was used in this report.
