SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, GERMANY (WFLA) -

A Tampa Air Force veteran and his K-9 partner will remain a team, even though they've both finished their careers in the Air Force.

Retired Air Force Technical Sergeant David Simpson, of Tampa, flew back to Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany for Monday's retirement ceremony of his K-9 partner Robson.

The pair worked side by side for four years on patrols throughout Spangdahlem and other deployment locations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. They also performed security checks for distinguished visitors, including the President and Vice President of the United States.

Simpson and "Robbie" had not seen each other for ten months.

“It was like seeing your best friend after a long time,” Simpson said. “Being able to play with him and show him my love – it’s good to see him again.”

Now, Simpson and Robbie will see each other every day. Simpson officially adopted Robbie and will bring him back here to Tampa.

Simpson is now a full-time college student studying business administration at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Fla.
