PORT RICHEY, FL (WFLA) - Structural engineers will examine a large hole that opened near a condo at the Orchards of Radcliffe complex in Port Richey.

The hole opened Sunday around 7 p.m.. Firefighters evacuated residents in the unit closest to the hole as a precaution. Residents in the building's five other units chose to stay.

Crews measured the hole Monday and say it is about 9 feet deep and 4-to-5 feet wide. They have not yet determined if it is a sinkhole or some other type of depression.

An opossum was inside the hole on Monday (see photo). Workers at the condo complex were trying to rescue the opossum early Monday afternoon.

Melanie and Jeffrey Cornwell should have been getting a tax break for years on part of the homestead property in Dunedin they call their "little piece of Heaven." But due to a mistake at the Pinellas Property Appraiser's Office, they won't see any rebates for previous taxes, just a break on future tax bills.
