Posted: Updated:

Ever wonder what goes on in the kitchen of your favorite restaurants?

We’ve gathered details about the Tampa Bay restaurants that received the most violations during inspections conducted from Feb. 24-28, 2014.

Each restaurant is shown in the slideshow above. The total number of violations the restaurant received is shown in the plate on the left side of the slide. Some details from the inspection report are listed below the slide.

The restaurant that had the most violations during the last week of February was the China One at 8747 Temple Terrace Highway with 42 violations.

Violations included:

  • Live, small flying insects in food preparation area
  • Raw fruits/vegetables not washed prior to cutting/shredding
  • Case/container/bag of food stored on floor in kitchen

WFLA.com called the owner of China One, John Junssu, who said that inspectors told him what he needed to do to fix the problems. Junssu said he called a pest control service to get rid of the insects. His staff now makes sure they wash all fruits and vegetables and he’s also made some changes to improve cleanliness at the restaurant.

“We hired more people to clean the kitchen and front of the restaurant,” said Junssu.

Inspectors from Florida's Department of Business and Professional Regulation conducted the inspections. The department cited violations of Florida's sanitation and safety laws, which are based on the standards of U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Food Code.

While most establishments correct all violations in a timely manner (often during the inspection), the division's procedures are designed to compel compliance with all violations through follow-up visits, administration action or closure when necessary, according to the Florida DBPR website.
