NC woman dies trying to save father from house fire

Posted: Updated:
FOUNTAIN, N.C. -

A man and his daughter were killed in a house fire Wednesday after the daughter went into the house to save her mother and then went back to try to save her father.

Crews responded to the home located on Turnage Road south of Fountain at approximately 10:58a.m. Wednesday.

But the Edgecombe County sheriff said one of victims was an older blind man and the other was his daughter, who was also his primary caregiver. Officials at first thought the man was the woman's grandfather.

The victims were identified as Jimmie Harris and Barbara Joiner Harris.

The sheriff says the woman was going into the house to get her father out when she died.

The home is completely destroyed.
