Pasco woman sues website over 'hot convict' mug shot

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - A Pasco County mother of four has filed a lawsuit against a website she claims has exploited her attractive mug shot.

A complaint filed in Hillsborough County Court by 28-year-old Meagan Simmons of Zephyrhills claims the website, InstantCheckmate.com, exploits her booking photo for promotional purposes without compensating her or even getting her permission. Instant Checkmate is a website used to find public records on people.

Simmons was arrested for DUI in Hillsborough County in 2010.

The lawsuit claims the website has branded her mug shot as a "hot convict" and thus has caused her "disturbance of her peace of mind, humiliation and embarrassment, harm to her reputation, violation of her right of privacy, and mental pain and anguish."

Simmons is seeking monetary damages and insists the website stop using her picture.
