Lakeland Police say teenage boy was murdered

LAKELAND, FL (WFLA) - Investigators with the Lakeland Police Department are collecting information in a death investigation.

The body of 17-year-old Damarco Powell was discovered early Saturday morning in the 1300 block of Atline Rd. The young man was reported missing by his mother just after 3 a.m.

According to a Lakeland Police Department report officers were dispatched to the scene just before 5 a.m. in response to a 9-1-1 call. A citizen called for help after finding the remains in a wooded area just east of some railroad tracks.

Powell resided at 870 Candyce Ave. in Lakeland the report states. Detectives spent the morning canvassing the area looking for clues.
