5 Hillsborough County students nominated for Presidential Scholars Program

Posted: Updated:
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL (WFLA) - Hillsborough County Public Schools have named five graduating seniors as candidates for the United States Presidential Scholars Program.

Each of the graduating seniors was selected as a candidate for their superior academic and artistic success, leadership skills, and school/community involvement.

A White House ceremony will take place in June where local candidates will take part in the National Recognition Program. The program was established in 1964 by Executive Order of the President to recognize and honor our nation’s most distinguished graduating seniors, and later expanded in 1979 to also recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative and performing arts.

The following students were recognized:

  • Marianna L. Sharp, Newsome High School
  • Kelly J. Cochran, Hillsborough High School
  • Anurag R. Baddam, King High School
  • Haoqing Wang, King High School
  • Kevin J. Mutchnick, Robinson High School

Congratulations to all five students on their nomination!

With a toss of a football, Charlie Crist boarded the bus in Orlando. “On to victory,” Crist announced, as he headed to his seat. It's a campaign tour that might have seemed improbable just a few years ago. But the former governor is on the campaign trail again, trying to win over voters to win back his old job in Tallahassee.
