TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - One of Tampa Bay’s dream mansions is now receiving national recognition.

The 21,000-square-foot estate is the third-largest mansion in Hillsborough County and is owned by Tom and June Simpson. In September of 2013, the Simpson's took WFLA anchor Rod Carter on a tour of the architecturally exquisite home.

Now, Mision Lago has won gold in the category of one-of-a-kind custom homes in Professional Builder Magazine’s 2014 Professional Builder Design Awards.

The magazine’s website says they are now in their third year of recognizing “beautifully designed projects that embrace and display new market trends.”

Completed in January 2013, the Thonotosassa home took the Simpsons four years to complete and features 40 rooms, including 13 bathrooms.

Built by Sterling Bay Homes, the $7.5 million mansion has a massive theatre room, a replica of the Tampa Theatre and a replica Oval Office that showcases a desk similar to the one during President John F. Kennedy’s term in office.
