James Taylor warns NC of fracking dangers in new TV ads

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Singer James Taylor is warning North Carolinians about the dangers of fracking in a series of television spots set to air this week.

"Big oil and gas are pushing the governor and the legislature to allow reckless fracking," says Taylor, who grew up in Chapel Hill. "Fracking is dirty and it's dangerous. It can poison drinking water, and chemicals in fracking fluid are known to cause cancer," Taylor adds.

Taylor has been a trustee of the Natural Resources Defense Council for 17 years.

A July 2013 Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) poll showed that North Carolinians overwhelmingly oppose fracking.

Taylor's message comes on the heels of a massive coal ash spill On Feb. 2 in the Dan River.

The ads will begin Thursday and run for at least two weeks on television stations in the Triangle.
