Burglars bust through wall to steal lawn equipment in Brandon

Posted: Updated:
BRANDON FL (WFLA) - The owner of Cutter Power Equipment scanned a wall of empty racks where line trimmers, edgers, chain saws and gas-powered leaf blowers used to hang.

Security cameras caught the burglars in the act: two or three men, with their heads covered, slithering like snakes on the floor.

One by one, a burglar removes items, then slides them to an accomplice like an assembly line.  They got in by breaking in and out of a neighboring business.

They cut a fence open, then used a sledge hammer to knock through the wall of the equipment showroom.

"To go through two block walls, a steel door, and then a third block wall to get in here, and then to come in here ninja-style to steal everything, yeah, I'm pretty amazed that they can put that much effort into stealing what they did," said owner Bill Antala.

The total take: 55 to 60 pieces of high-end lawn equipment worth up to $20,000.

The thieves actually left for 2 hours, then returned to finish, possibly spooked that they had tripped an alarm.  They even used a neighboring business's ladder to haul it away.

The owner says he will to review his security plans to make sure this doesn't happen again.
