TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

The US Women's Elite Rowing Team is coming to Tampa this weekend.

All eyes may be on the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, but Olympic and world athletes are in the Bay Area now training for the 2014 World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam and the 2016 Olympic games in Rio.

Tampa's Hillsborough river has become the top training ground for high school, college and now Olympic rowing champs.

This weekend is your chance to see some of the top rowers take to the water in the 3rd annual outdoor festival kicks off Friday - and throughout the weekend you can watch rowers, dragon boat and paddleboard races just to name a few

The 3rd Annual Rowing Regatta kicks off Friday, February 14th with a party at the Davis Islands Garden Club, and races running Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday the public is also welcome to cheer on Dragon Boat teams and will gather at the HCC Administrative Campus which is also on Columbia Drive.

Part of the proceeds from the annual event support The Stewards Foundation, which funds the sport of rowing as a vehicle to teach teamwork and responsibility to young people throughout Tampa Bay. The foundation provides financial aid to approximately 250 youths in the bay area annually.
