TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - It was Scott Enfinger's white Ford Expedition that slammed into a Hyundai Sonata early Sunday morning on Interstate 275, killing four USF students. Enfinger wasn't driving that truck. His best friend, Daniel Morris, was.

Morris also died in that fiery early morning crash. On Friday, Enfinger and his attorney Jonathan Hackworth scheduled a news conference in Tampa to speak about the accident.

During the press conference Friday, Enfinger reiterated the fact Morris did not have permission to take the truck. He told the media Morris had not been drinking all day; however he did start drinking in the evening.

He also asked for privacy and expressed grief in the loss of his best friend.

"Daniel Morris was like my brother," he said. "I'm lost like everyone else. This is a person that would do anything for you."

"He loved my children. Daniel Morris] helped my daughter with her homework," Enfinger continued. "My oldest daughter knows Uncle Danny is in heaven."

Enfinger said his family has been threatened. He said he has not had threats of any lawsuits.

Hackworth issued a statement Wednesday saying in part, "Mr. Scott Enfinger expresses his deepest sympathies and condolences to the families and friends of the victims in this tragedy. Mr. Enfinger stands with the families of this tragedy in attempting to determine why Daniel Morris was driving into oncoming traffic. At this time, Mr. Enfinger requests privacy to grieve both the tragic loss of a longtime childhood friend as well as the four other victims whose lives were tragically cut short by this accident."

Reached by phone, Hackworth says his client and Morris were sitting by a fire pit cooking some chicken, when Morris went inside the home on East Broad Street. He says the next thing Enfinger heard was his SUV leaving the driveway. Enfinger ran after the truck on foot, Hackworth said, but couldn't catch it. His girlfriend then called 911 to report the stolen car.
