LAKELAND, FL (WFLA) -

A long-time dream is now reality in Lakeland.

Thursday marked the official grand opening of a new hospice.

The 16-bed facility is designed to give those battling terminal illnesses the comforts of home in their final days.

"We do everything possible to make this as home like and a setting for the family as we possibly can. So even though we're providing state of the art medical care for our patients who don't want to go to the hospital, it's done in a home like setting," said Donald Evans who is the Executive Director of Good Shepherd Hospice.

The facility features amenities such as wi-fi, beds for visitors to stay overnight and a children's play area.
