New Animal Services Director selected for Hillsborough County

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Hillsborough County has selected a new animal services director after the previous director lost his job last year.

On Wednesday, Hillsborough County Administrator Mike Merrill announced Scott Trebatoski has been selected as the Director for Hillsborough County Animal Services, bringing more than 12 years of experience and training in the animal services field to the county.

Trebatoski currently works as the Division Chief for Animal Care and Protective Services with the City of Jacksonville. Under his leadership, the shelter has significantly increased the live outcome rate. In addition, the City of Jacksonville Animal Care and Protective Services was named Outstanding Agency of the year by the Florida Animal Control Association three times during his tenure, which includes 2013. He has also served on the board of directors of the Florida Animal Control Association and was president twice. He is also the Animal Control Representative for the American Microchip Advisory Council for Animals and is a licensed Animal Control Officer.

Trebatoski will begin work at Hillsborough County Animal Services on Monday, March 10 at an annual salary of $120,000.

Dexter Barge will continue to serve as Interim Animal Services Director until then.

Ongoing issues at the county shelter cost previous director Ian Hallett his job. In months leading up to his termination, the facility had to divert dogs because of a virus and workers accidentally euthanized a dog as he waited for his new adopted family to come get him.
