Tampa author's story comes true in officer's life

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Navy Seal Mark Roberts lands in Tampa profoundly single, wrapped up in his fast moving military career with no time for love, until he's stationed at MacDill Air Force Base.

Sounds a little like a romance novel? It actually is - a romance novel by Tampa author Melissa Meyer. It is called " Good Company."

It's her third book in a series of contemporary romance novels, but this story ended up turning into life-imitating art. When Meyer met a real Navy Seal at a military reunion, she loosely based the main character in her book around that man's true romance scenario.

"Everyone (at the reunion) was giving their marital status and his was he was not married but he was taking applications," Meyer recalled the real Navy Seal saying as he joked with his fellow officers.

In her book, Meyers decided it was time for that Seal to allow himself a little bit of downtime to explore the beautiful Tampa Bay area, and hopefully run into his dream girl.

Meyers thought the real Seal she met at her husband's reunion most likely wouldn't follow the same path as the main character in her book.

Sometime after "Good Company" was published she heard through the grapevine, that the once profoundly singled Navy Seal she had met all those years ago, actually ended up finding the same happy ending as the character in her book.

"After several years of being very very single - is married and has a family," Meyer said.

With all the hard work and dedication the men and women of our armed services give to our country it's nice to see when they truly find happiness.

"That's a life chapter a romance author always likes to hear about, that's what we want," Meyers said.
