Riverview teen dies after being hit by SUV on I-4

ORLANDO, FL (WFLA) - A 14-year-old Riverview teenager died Friday night after he was hit by a vehicle while trying to cross Interstate 4 in Hillsborough County.

Andrew Joseph III was pronounced dead at the scene just before 11 p.m.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report Joseph was running northbound across the roadway just west of US Highway 301 when he was struck by a 1999 Ford Explorer. The driver of the vehicle, 19-year-old Jonathan Hatfield of Bartow, was not hurt.

A passenger in the SUV, a 17-year-old Bartow teen, also was not hurt. Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Alcohol did not play a factor and no charges have been filed.
