I-Team correction: Officer speaks out

Posted: Updated:
CRANSTON, R.I. -

Last month, NBC 10's I-Team reported on a Cranston police officer who reportedly took part in an overnight parking ticket scheme.

Now one officer is speaking out.

The I-Team reported last month that Lt. Russell Henry had used his private cell phone to order other officers to issue parking tickets in two city wards-represented by two city councilmen who voted against a union contract.

We tried to contact Lt. Henry at the time, but we were not successful. When we heard from him after the story he said he couldn't talk for the record because of an ongoing investigation.

Now we have heard from Lt. Henry and his lawyer. He tells us he "had absolutely no involvement, either directly or indirectly with the issuance of any parking tickets in the district in question."

Further investigation of his statement convinces us of his lack of involvement.

State police are continuing their investigation into the ticket scandal, but they are refusing comment on the probe.
