Marathon bond hearing for Pasco theater shooting suspect

DADE CITY, FL (WFLA) -

The widow of the man shot dead in a Wesley Chapel movie theater over texting will have to wait until late Friday to find out if suspected shooter Curtis Reeves will get out on bond.

A hearing on the matter will resume Friday morning after an hours-long marathon session on Thursday Dade City. At a long, drawn-out session, News Channel 8 got a sneak preview into what will be Reeve's likely defense: that Chad Oulson hit him.

However, many who saw the argument, saw the popcorn fly, and saw the flash of a gun say it just didn't happen.

Charles Cummings witnessed the entire incident.

"As Oulson started to go past us, as he reached my left shoulder, he said, 'I can't believe he shot me'," said Cummings.

Sumter County Corporal Alan Hamilton happened to be in the theater to see "Lone Survivor."

He says he moved toward Reeves after the gun shot, and heard him talking, saying he'd been hit by something.

"He said, 'I can't' and he pushed his glasses back, he said, and, 'I can't believe what I've done'," he said.

Reeves had gone to the theater with his wife. Corporal Hamilton says she scolded her husband.

And she postured, and she said, that was no cause to shoot anyone. And then he leaned back around and stuck his finger out so as to scold her and said, you should shut your f**** mouth and don't say another word," he said.

He says he heard Reeves express anger over being hit with a bag of popcorn.

"I then heard Curtis say something along the lines of either I'll teach you or I'll show you, throw popcorn at me. Then followed by the gun shot," Cpl. Hamilton said.

Re-living the crime over and over again is tough on Chad Oulson's widow. Nicole Oulson broke down when an off duty nurse described how he tried to save Chad's life, giving him CPR on the theater floor.

"I understand that he deserves his day in trial to decide if he gets bond or not, but it's just not fair to the victim," said her attorney, T.J. Grimaldi.

The bond hearing will resume Friday morning at 10 a.m.
