FHP trooper involved in Hillsborough crash

POLK COUNTY, FL (WFLA) - Florida Highway Patrol trooper was injured in a crash on westbound Interstate 4 in Hillsborough County Wednesday.

It happened around 10:00 p.m. Officials said, a trooper was finishing the investigation of the previous crash. He was trying to cross the lanes to help a person involved in the crash. The patrol car emergency lights were on, according to FHP.

The trooper's cruiser was hit by a box truck. The cruiser rotated inside the emergency lane and hit the unoccupied car left from the initial crash, according to the FHP report. The box truck hit another car in the westbound lane.

Paramedics took the trooper, the female passenger in the cruiser and the driver of the car hit by the box truck to a hospital. The driver of the box truck was not injured.

According to the FHP report, all the injuries were non-incapacitating.

Officials say the westbound lanes of Interstate 4 just west of McIntosh Road were closed for some time after the crash.
