PASCO COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

Pasco County authorities say Garrett Bruce is still on the run, and the Sheriff's Office is appealing to his wife to contact them for his safe return.

Bruce is the subject of an 8 On Your Side investigation. He is accused of driving drunk and slamming into a power poll, killing a passenger in his car in December 2011.

Bruce was due in a Pinellas County courtroom on Tuesday, but he didn't show. Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco says Bruce cut off an ankle monitor and fled.

Nocco says Bruce's wife Jennifer and their two young sons are also missing.

The Sheriff's office has posted a video on their Facebook page appealing to Bruce's wife for the family to return.

Ralph Sims is a bail bondsman who issued a $100,000 dollar bond that allowed Bruce to walk out of jail until his trial.

Sims says when he first met Bruce, he was like many other defendants he has seen before.

"He seemed calm, very patient at the time, nothing suspicious about him, you know the typical, he was worried about his family," said Sims

Sims is the one who asked for the ankle monitor, because Bruce didn't have sufficient collateral for the large bond.

Sims says he was notified an hour after Bruce cut off the device. He immediately went to Bruce's home and spoke to his wife.

"His wife said she didn't know anything about it and she was kind of in shock as well, but she said I can't believe he would do this either," said Sims.

Now Sims says he could lose the $100,000 dollar bond if Bruce isn't found. He has a private investigator and others helping him to find Bruce.
