ST PETERSBURG, FL (WFLA) -

A collection of Madonna memorabilia scheduled for auction in St. Petersburg includes photos of the material girl before she became a superstar and a signed Andy Warhol sketch.

The collection is owned by an elderly Tampa Bay couple whose son, Martin Burgoyne, was Madonna's roommate and best friend in New York City in the 1980s.

Burgoyne was an artist who worked as a dancer, model and also a bartender at Studio 54. He died in from AIDS in 1986 at the age of 23.

The 1992 Madonna song “In This Life,” was written with Burgoyne in mind and was also dedicated to him, according to a description in the auction catalog.

"It's pretty neat. Kind of a window into someone who became pretty big," said Mary Dowd, who owns Myers Fine Art & Antiques Auction Gallery with her husband Michael Myers.

Burgoyne was heavily involved in Madonna's early career and was a dancer in her first live performance. He was also the art designer of her 1983 record "Burning Up" and her first book "Lucky Star."

There are 16 lots in the collection which includes a gold "Holiday" record, multiple photos of Madonna clowning around with Burgoyne and studio photographs of Madonna.

The collection also features a sketchbook containing colored pencil and ink drawings, including original artwork used on the cover of Madonna's Burning Up album.

A signed Andy Warhil sketch of Burgoyne with an estimated value of $40,000 to $50,000 is also in the collection.

The auction will be held Feb. 9, 2014 at Myers Fine Art & Antiques Auction Gallery which is located at 1600 Fourth St. N. in St. Petersburg (727) 823-3249. Telephone and online bidding will also be allowed, however participants must register prior to the auction.
