Columbus woman dead after drive-by shooting

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ga. -

One woman is dead after police say a bullet struck her during an apparent drive-by shooting Saturday night.

Police say 47-year-old Marvine Bailey, also known as Marilyn, was shot just before 8 p.m. She was taken to Midtown Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Friends and family were at her home Sunday afternoon where the mood was somber.

"It was devastating it really shocked us here in the community," said family friend, Thomas Williams.

She left behind two daughters one 18-years-old, the other 28, and one son who is 23-years-old.

While Marvine's children were not ready to be interviewed about their mothers death so soon, other immediate members were able to reminisce on who she was.

"We always had family gatherings and she loved to cook. My family was real close," said one cousin, Tiffany Bryant.

People who were close to Bailey described her as joyful, full of life, and someone they could always talk to.

"She was real jolly and happy. She was always laughing and smiling every time you saw her," said Robin Hardnett.

Family and friends say now they just want answers and for justice to be served.

This shooting was Columbus's second homicide this year. The crime is under investigation and the only additional information police have released was that the vehicle was a dark color.
