Elizabethton police officer involved in crash resigns

Posted: Updated:
ELIZABETHTON, TN (WJHL) - The Elizabethton police officer involved in a wreck earlier this month has now resigned.

Chief Greg Workman tells us officer Jonathan King resigned Tuesday to "pursue other employment opportunities."

According to the chief, King had previous disciplinary actions and was facing discipline related to a crash on Elk Avenue.

A Tennessee Highway Patrol report previously indicated King was at fault for the wreck after merging into the left lane without noticing another car. The THP report said the officer hit that car shortly after activating his emergency lights and sirens.

First Judicial District Attorney Tony Clark says THP is still putting together its final report. According to Clark, at the moment, it's unclear whether or not the former officer will face any charges.
