BROOKSVILLE, FL (WFLA) - An early morning fire burned down a Brooksville restaurant Friday.

According to the Hernando County Fire Rescue, Papa Joe's Restaurant at 6244 Spring Lake Highway caught fire around 3 a.m. Crews found heavy smoke and said it wasn't safe to enter the building.

The restaurant's owners Joe and Donna Giarratana who've owned the place for over 30 years, say they are worried about their employees and their families who are without jobs now. But they are hopeful they will be able to rebuild the restaurants.

"We've been here for 33 years and we've had wonderful blessings all the time and this will turn into a blessing somehow," Donna said.

They have a lot of catering events coming up and their book of contacts and schedule are burned. To reach them you can call Joe at 352-585-7557.

Firefighters don't believe anyone was in the building at the time. The state Fire Marshal investigators are working to determine what started the fire. No nearby buildings were damaged.
