ST PETERSBURG, FL (WFLA) -

It's been nearly three years since Kelly Rothwell, a former police cadet in Pinellas County went missing. Now her friends are behind a new push to get information about her disappearance.

Several billboards have gone up around the Tampa Bay area seeking new information in the case.

Rothwell was last seen around 3:30 p.m. on March 12, 2001 after leaving a Clearwater restaurant.

During lunch, she told a friend she was going home to inform her live-in boyfriend that she was moving out and ending their relationship.

Rothwell's boyfriend, David Robert Perry is currently in jail in New York after he was convicted for insurance fraud and grand theft, charges that are unrelated to Rothwell's case.

Numerous searches have been conducted in Pinellas County and around Sand Key Beach, but investigators have not obtained evidence that would lead to an arrest or to information about what happened to Rothwell after she left the Clearwater Restaurant.

One of Rothwell's best friends is Donna Scharett.

On Monday, Sharett will have an advertising-style wrap put on her car to bring attention to Rothwell's case.

She's hoping the billboards and the wrap on her car will prompt someone to come forward with information that can help solve the mystery of her friend's disappearance.
