The Jonesborough Senior Center will sponsor a safety and self-defense class open to women over the age of 18 at the Historic Jonesborough Visitors Center from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on January 28 & 29 and February 4 & 5.
All ladies over the age of 18 are encouraged to participate in the 12 hour course that will be held in three hour sessions instructed by members of the Jonesborough Public Safety Department including Major Natalie Hilton and Sargent Chad Proffitt.
The cost of the course is $12 before January 22 and $15 beginning January 23, if any spots remain in the course.
“This is a great opportunity to invest in your own personal safety and learn what to do to reduce your risk and become empowered,” Marcia Rountree, Director of Programs for the Jonesborough Senior Center said.
Participation in the class will encourage students to think in terms of options and choices while developing awareness and assertiveness skills to provide physical defense techniques. The class is a R.A.D. Systems certified self-defense course. Light snacks & refreshments will be served at break time each day.
