Suspect steals flat-screen, flees on skateboard in Clearwater

Posted: Updated:
CLEARWATER, FL (WFLA) - A man robbed a Super Target in Clearwater leaving the store on a skateboard with a 32-inch flat-screen TV, city police said.

According to Clearwater PD, this happened when the store at the Clearwater Mall on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard was closing on Wednesday. The suspect came in minutes before the closing time, and at first he was looking at cell phone cases, according to police.

He then went to the TV section and picked a 32-inch Element LCD TV. The surveillance video at the store shows him skating through the store with the TV in his hands.

Detectives said, when the store staff tried to stop him by the doors, he waved a utility knife and ran out, the TV and the skateboard in hand. Once outside, he jumped back on his getaway vehicle of choice and headed toward Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard. He was in the store for a total of about three minutes, police said.

Detectives describe the suspect as a man in his 20s, thin build, about 5 feet 11 inches tall and 150 pounds. He was wearing a black hoodie, dark jeans, green Nike shoes, and had a black backpack.

The make, model and year of the of the skateboard are unknown, but it was brown with orange-yellow wheels, according to CPD.

"I've never seen anything like it," said John Brown, the robbery detective investigating the case. "He gets an A for creativity. But he committed a serious crime and we need to find him."

Anyone with information about this suspect should call Clearwater Police at (727)562-4242.
