A Raleigh man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 40 in Johnston County Wednesday evening.
Highway Patrol said the accident happened around 5:15 p.m. on I-40 near mile marker 322 near Benson.
Authorities said a 2006 For Expedition , driven by Ramsis Matta Soliman, was traveling west on I-40 when the driver ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, overturned and then ran off the left side of the road into the median and eventually landed right-side up.
Soliman suffered severe head trauma and emergency workers began performing life-saving techniques to keep him alive. Soliman died at the scene in the ambulance.
The passenger in the Expedition, Amel Selwanes suffered a leg injury that was not life-threatening.
I-40 was shut down for 30 minutes in both directions Wednesday as a result of the accident.
