FORT MYERS, FL (WFLA) - Dashcam video from the Ft. Myers Police Department is giving us another example of how dangerous it is to text and drive.

On Saturday, January 4 at 1:12 a.m., an officer noticed the driver of a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am was swerving and slowing down for no apparent reason.  The officer followed the car as it made a right turn at an intersection.

After making the turn, the Pontiac suddenly sped up, cutting across the inside lane, and driving up onto the sidewalk, where it hit a guard rail, bus stop sign, and a tree before rolling over.

The driver, Michael Woody, was able to crawl out of the wreck.  He later admitted to the officer that he was texting, and not looking at the roadway.  Woody was not seriously hurt, but he was cited for careless driving and texting while driving.
