LILLINGTON, N.C. -

A Sanford man was charged with first degree rape of a child after the alleged victim's parents found inappropriate messages between the man and their daughter.

Bailey Joe Mills, 33, of Sanford, was arrested Sunday on one charge of first degree rape of a child less than 13 years of age.

The Harnett County Sheriff's Office said the victim's parents, who live in Lillington, alerted deputies after observing inappropriate Facebook messaging between their daughter and a man.

A State Bureau of Investigation Agent assisted with the search of Mills' residence on Nicole Drive, and evidence gathered from the home will be previewed to determine any other possible criminal activities.

Mills is being held on a $500,000 secured bond, and the Harnett County Sheriff's Office said the case is still under investigation.

Additional charges may be filed.
