ST. PETERSBURG, FL (WFLA) - A 28-year-old man being sought in connection with a string of bank robberies in the Bay area was arrested Friday in South Carolina.

Wesley Andrew Fox was apprehended in Greenville, S.C. and booked into Greenville County Jail where he is awaiting extradition back to Florida.

The Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force tracked Fox to South Carolina and authorities spotted him walking near an interstate. Fox attempted to flee but was quickly captured and taken into custody.

Fox was arrested by officers with the St. Petersburg Police Department on October 5, 2012 after undercover officers watched him flee from a robbery at the PNC Bank in the 3800 block of 49th St. North. Detectives then linked him to at least five other PNC robberies in the Bay area.

In each case the suspect used a small, silver semi-automatic handgun. He also wore a bullet-proof vest, a hat and sunglasses.

Following his arrest in October 2012 investigators found inside his vehicle a chrome P-380 handgun with a large amount of money. In addition to five counts of armed bank robbery charges Fox is also facing three counts of kidnapping and three counts of armed kidnapping.

Fox bonded out of the Pinellas County Jail on December 8th, 2013 but after he failed to show up for a pre-trial hearing a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.

Before the bank robbery arrest Fox had two other brushes with law enforcement. He was arrested by Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies on operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license charge in 2007 and he was arrested again by HCSO in 2010 on burglary, grand theft and criminal mischief charges.
