Unidentified man struck, killed by van on I-275 in Manatee County

PALMETTO, FL (WFLA) - An unidentified pedestrian was struck and killed Friday night while trying to cross Interstate 275 near Palmetto.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report Rusty A. Howard was traveling east in the right lane when his 1995 Honda van struck the man. Howard, a 53-year-old Spring Hill resident, was not hurt.

Investigators say alcohol was not a factor and Howard was wearing his seatbelt. They have been unable to determine the man’s identity or why he was on the roadway.

No disabled vehicles were located in the area where the crash occurred.

If you have any information about this incident or know the identity of the pedestrian, please contact the Florida Highway Patrol. No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
