SARASOTA COUNTY, FL (WFLA) - Sarasota Police have made an arrest in the New Year's Day homicide of Johnny Luna, 35. The killing was Sarasota County's first homicide of 2014.

Luna was found lying on the ground at about 4:30 a.m. at 2065 4th Street. Detectives say he had been stabbed multiple times. Paramedics tried to revive him, but he was declared dead at the scene.

On January 2, detectives arrested Jorge Macias, 35, of Sarasota and charged him with one count of second-degree murder.

Investigators say Macias confessed to killing Lunas. The men had gotten into an argument at a party on New Year's Eve.

Detectives served a search warrant at Macias' home and say they found a set of kitchen knives that matched the murder weapon found at the scene. They say they also found the clothing that Macias was wearing the night of the murder.

Macias was booked into the Sarasota County Jail after his arrest.
