Tree crashes down on Dunedin condos

DUNEDIN, FL -

Several Dunedin residents woke up to a huge tree crashing down onto their condos.

The 3-foot-wide tree, with a rotten base, fell down around 2 a.m. Friday at the King Arthur's Court community in Dunedin. A National Weather Service forecaster says winds were gusting around 40 miles per hour at the time.

"The biggest noise I've ever heard in my life," said resident Caroline Bradley. "We thought it was lightning. We thought it was a car accident. It wasn't any of those. It was a big fat tree that fell on my house. It missed our heads by what? A foot."

Bradley just moved down from Massachusetts two days ago. She says the building is insured through her condo owner's association.

The tree shattered several windows and doors as it landed on the roof. It also destroyed several screened in patios. The branches did not crash through the roof and residents say there is little damage inside.

No one was injured, but families in four of the condos are now displaced. American Red Cross volunteers set them all up in hotel rooms early Friday morning.
