Litzell was airlifted by helicopter to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville where he is listed in stable condition. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Authorities say the incident occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m. on Reid St. in Palatka. Somourian J. Wingo was pronounced dead at the scene. Litzell attempted to stop Wingo and another man for an unknown violation when gunfire erupted.

The search is on for the second man.

Wingo was released from state prison in May 2012 after serving time for a cocaine conviction in St. Johns County.
