ELIZABETHTON, TN (WJHL) - A man awaiting trial on a murder charge in Carter County now faces an assault charge against a jailer.

Israel Goudy, was charged in Sept. 2012 with second-degree murder and fabricating a crime scene.

Goudy was accused by Carter County investigators of shooting Larry Whittaker in October 2011 and stabbing himself in an attempt to cover up the murder.

Carter County Jail Administrator Capt. Thomas Smith said at lunchtime on Sunday Goudy and his cellmate did not respond when ordered to come out of their cell for the meal, so the jail officer continued delivering meals before returning.

Upon his return, Goudy’s cellmate left for his meal but Goudy began using profanities and said none of the other guards make him leave his cell to eat.

Goudy did come out, though, and took a sandwich that he threw in the jailer’s face, Smith said. He was immediately handcuffed, but head-butted the guard.

Goudy also said he would kill the guard with a broom handle if he could, and that he was already facing a murder charge, according to Smith.

The officer had no serious injury but was checked out by medical personnel.

Goudy refused medical treatment.

He was charged with assault and was scheduled to appear in Carter County Sessions Court Jan. 13 for that offense.

His next court appearance for the murder charge is Feb. 12 in Criminal Court.
