Therapy horses fell through the ice on a lake in Missouri and would have drowned if not for the local firefighters who used all the special training they received just days before, CNN reported.

The horses' owner Tina Churchill saw them fall through the ice but was not able to rescue them. Her husband called firefighters, who had practiced ice water rescue in their new protective suits two days ago.

The firefighters used their newly learned skills to cut a path for the horses to get out using special equipment. It took about an hour according to CNN.

These horses Meadow and Zihna are therapy animals for people with mental health problems. The animals are safe and sound. They got a few minor scratches on their legs.
