PINELLAS COUNTY, FL - A state prison inmate from Pinellas County was the "engineer" of a scheme involving forged documents that helped two convicted murderers escape from prison earlier this year, authorities said Thursday.

Nydeed Nashaddai, 48, had successfully used a fake document to escape from the Pinellas County Jail in 2009, and later taught the two others how to do it, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Nashaddai, the two now-captured escaped inmates Charles Walker and Joseph Jenkins, and three others accused of assisting them were charged in the alleged scheme, FDLE announced at a news conference on Thursday.

Walker and Jenkins escaped from Franklin Correctional Institute in September, tipping off a manhunt that led to their capture. Previously, Nashaddai and the other two men made an escape attempt in 2011, said FDLE commissioner Gerald Bailey.

Also facing charges are Jeffrey Forbes, 30, an inmate accused of attempting to escape; Terrance Goodman, 37, accused of helping the escapees to get a hotel room; and Willie Slater, Jr., 36, accused of helping get the documents delivered to the Orange County Clerk's Office.

Slater is also the brother of a victim murdered by Jenkins. Jenkins and Slater knew each other during an incarceration at another facility and Slater "owed" Jenkins because he had submitted an affidavit that led to Slater getting out of prison, an FDLE official said.
