Troxler endorses Tillis for Senate primary in NC

RALEIGH, N.C. -

U.S. Senate candidate Thom Tillis says he's received the endorsement of a key Republican in North Carolina Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler in his bid for the GOP nomination.

Tillis' campaign says Troxler announced his support at a campaign event Wednesday. The state House speaker is one of at least five announced candidates for the Republican primary in May.

Troxler is quoted in a Tillis release as saying the Charlotte-area lawmaker has done more for farmers and agriculture while speaker the past three years than had been done in the past decade for the industry.

Tillis also announced a "Farmers for Tillis" coalition for which Troxler will be co-chairman.
