Anonymous donor drops diamond ring in Salvation Army kettle

Posted: Updated:
FLORIDA - The Salvation Army got a sparkling piece of good will.  An anonymous donor dropped a diamond ring inside one of the organization’s kettles.  It's been a Christmas tradition in south Florida four years running.

The anonymous donor always calls and tells officials which red kettle to go check.  And like every other year, the donor left a note saying how thankful she was for the work The Salvation Army does all year long.

"I know she wants to be anonymous. She knows that what comes here stays here and so it's like she wants to help this community,” said Maj, Linda Payton with The Salvation Army.  “It's just, thank you, thank you!"

The appraisal of the ring puts its worth at about $3,500.  Officials hope to auction it off  to help as many people as possible.
