NC doctor credited with saving man's life mid-air

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A North Carolina doctor is being credited with saving a man's life in mid-air.

Dr. Maeve O’Connor, an allergy specialist, was flying from Phoenix to Charlotte Friday, when she saw the passenger sitting in front of her suffer from a seizure.  That man was 70-yr.-old Thomas Lecoq.

O'Connor said he became unresponsive and didn't have a pulse.  With help from other passengers, she laid him down in the emergency exit row and began CPR.

"He was dead, and I was just thinking of all the protocols you do to save someone's life,” said O’Connor.

"I've been given probably the best Christmas gift that is possible to get, which is an extension of your time here,” said Lecoq.

The plane made an emergency landing in Nashville where Lecoq was taken to the hospital.  Doctors say he was severely dehydrated which threw his electrolytes out of balance.  The grandfather says he hopes to speak with O'Connor soon.  He calls her the stranger in the sky that helped save his life.
