New traffic pattern for Himes Avenue exit on I-275

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - Himes Ave will exit to the left on southbound Interstate 275 beginning Wednesday morning.

The new exit pattern will last roughly a year.

A similar change for the Howard/Armenia exit caused significant backups until drivers became used to it.  Florida Department of Transportation officials say drivers need to be cautious when adapting to the new pattern.

The change is due to the ongoing widening project from SR 60 (end of Howard Frankland Bridge) to the Hillsborough River (edge of Downtown Tampa).

Starting Tuesday night, Himes Avenue will also be closed under I-275 until Friday at 5:00 p.m.

*NORTHBOUND DETOUR: West on Cypress Street, north on Dale Mabry Highway then east on Spruce Street.
*SOUTHBOUND DETOUR: West on Spruce Street, south on Dale Mabry Highway, then east on Cypress Street.

Drivers can also take MacDill or Dale Mabry as alternates through the area rather than dealing with the detours.
