A dilapidated mansion that has been the focus of complaints in a Davis Islands neighborhood was demolished Tuesday afternoon.

The city of Tampa ordered that the mansion be torn down during a special magistrate hearing in November.

The mansion's owners have agreed to pay the estimated $16,000 to tear down the mansion, which is located at 545 Severn Avenue. Property records show the mansion is owned by John and Mary Francis Perez.

Some neighbors are looking forward to the demolition.

"We're very happy, we're thrilled to death, some of the neighbors are gathering around. We're going to have a little champagne party when they bring in the wrecking ball," said Javier Lescano.

Walls inside and outside of the home are crumbling. Neighbors have complained there are rats and other vermin living in the home.

The home was built and designed in 1971 by Norman Bond, who became wealthy by renting televisions. He designed the mansion as a dream home and it had only one bedroom when it was first built. He says it was a bachelor's dream.

"It had a pool inside, a pool outside, it had a tennis court, jacuzzi, and a helicopter pad on top," said Bond.  "It was a fun house. "

Playboy magazine once featured the home as a "dream bachelor pad" in the 1970s.

Bond hosted many parties there when he owned the mansion. Baltimore Colts players showed up at one of Bond's New Year's Eve parties.

"Are you kidding?" asked Bond.  "Started with Ms. Florida, You know. Baltimore Colts came over. New Year's Eve. Used to date a lot. Used to have a lot of fun. Had a lot of fun with that house. "
