Plant City man injured in crash near Inverness

INVERNESS, FL (WFLA) -

An unidentified Plant City man died Friday night from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash in Citrus County.

The incident occurred just after 10 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 44 and Cypress Cove Court in Inverness.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report the driver was traveling east on SR 44 on his 2008 Suzuki motorcycle when he failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate-of-speed the report states.

The bike struck a curb, overturned and traveled through the intersection. The driver and the motorcycle collided with another curb before going through a six-foot tall fence.

The man was ejected onto a concrete sidewalk. He was not wearing a helmet. He was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.

The official cause of the crash has not been determined as the investigation continues. The name of the driver is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
