Thieves hit Hillsborough migrant mission

Posted: Updated:
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL (WFLA) - A thief is trying to ruin Christmas for the Beth-El Mission in Wimauma.

Late Tuesday night, someone broke into a box truck in the parking lot of the mission and stole ten new bicycles that were to be given as Christmas presents.

The thief, or thieves, also stole a van that the mission uses to pick up donations and transportation.

Dave Moore, the executive director of the Beth-El Mission, says the van is an integral part of the mission’s work.

"We have used it significantly, just about every day we are going to somewhere in the local area from Bradenton to Tampa to pick up something to make a delivery, some of the donated furniture,” said Moore.

The Beth-El Mission serves the migrant community in Hillsborough County.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's office is investigating the theft.
